Some cats prefer to keep to themselves, but one adorable foster kitty named Simon couldn’t wait to make new friends. In fact, he was so excited to meet the other cats in his temporary home that he spent weeks meowing outside the door, seemingly determined to convince his foster mom that he was ready for introductions.
Simon had recently arrived at the home of experienced foster parent Rachael Rae Robertson, who was giving the friendly feline a safe place to stay while he waited for a forever family. Although Simon was settling into his new surroundings, there was one thing he desperately wanted that his foster mom wasn’t quite ready to give him: the chance to meet his new feline roommates.
For Simon, knowing there were other cats just beyond his bedroom door was apparently too exciting to ignore. Instead of quietly enjoying his own space, the talkative little guy spent hours each day meowing and calling out, seemingly wondering why everyone else was allowed to socialize while he was stuck waiting.
But Rachael had a good reason for keeping the cats apart.
Introducing a foster animal into a home with resident pets requires patience, especially when the newcomer needs time to adjust and complete a quarantine period. Although Simon appeared more than ready to make friends, his foster mom wanted to ensure everyone could meet safely and comfortably.
That didn’t stop the enthusiastic kitty from making his feelings known.
After weeks of waiting, Simon finally got his big moment on October 8, when Rachael decided it was time for a carefully supervised introduction. She placed a tall pet gate between the cats so they could see and smell one another without immediately sharing the same space.

She also brought out lick mats covered with tasty treats, hoping the snacks would help everyone associate the meeting with something positive.
At first, the introduction seemed almost surprisingly uneventful. Simon’s new feline brother, Hudson, was far more interested in enjoying his treat than investigating the unfamiliar cat on the other side of the gate.
But Simon had a completely different set of priorities.
After waiting so long to meet another cat, he appeared to forget all about his snack the moment he realized there was a potential friend standing nearby. Instead of focusing on his food, the eager foster kitty turned his attention toward Hudson, making it clear that socializing was much more exciting than treat time.
And the sweetest part was that Hudson soon seemed just as curious.
The resident tabby eventually approached the barrier, reaching through the gate and even attempting to climb over it to get a closer look at Simon. What began as a cautious introduction quickly turned into an adorable moment between two cats who appeared genuinely interested in getting to know each other.
For viewers who had followed Simon’s persistent requests to meet his foster siblings, the interaction was everything they had hoped for.
One commenter was especially charmed by how quickly Simon abandoned his treat once he noticed the possibility of making a new friend. Another couldn’t get enough of his cheerful personality, pointing out how much the little guy seemed to enjoy chatting and trilling throughout the encounter.
It’s hard not to smile watching a cat who was once facing an uncertain future become so comfortable and eager to connect with others.
According to the original account of Simon’s rescue, he had previously been at risk of euthanasia before entering foster care. Now, instead of facing that uncertain outcome, he has a safe home, regular meals and the opportunity to form friendships while waiting for adoption.
Rachael’s thoughtful approach also offers a useful reminder for anyone introducing a new cat into a household. Although some pets may appear eager to meet immediately, gradual introductions can reduce stress and help prevent territorial disagreements.
Allowing cats to become familiar with each other’s scents, rewarding calm behavior and using a secure barrier during early meetings can help them build confidence at their own pace.
And while Simon’s introduction to Hudson looked promising, that doesn’t mean every cat will become instant best friends. Some need much longer to feel comfortable around a newcomer, which makes patience especially important.
For Simon, though, the wait appeared to be worth it.
The little foster cat who spent weeks calling through a closed door finally got the chance to meet one of the friends he had been so eager to see. And judging by how quickly both cats became curious about each other, this could be the beginning of a very sweet friendship.
Now Simon just needs one more happy ending: a forever family that will appreciate his affectionate personality, endless conversations and enormous enthusiasm for making friends.
After all, a cat with this much love to share deserves a home where he’ll never have to wonder whether someone wants to spend time with him.
