We tend to think of our pets as relying more on senses other than sight. A cat’s sense of smell is over fourteen times stronger than that of a human, and they are capable of detecting changes in pheromones and all manner of tiny signals that humans generally cannot.

Their sense of hearing is also finely attuned and they can even detect higher frequencies than dogs (the better to hear the squeaking in the walls, my dear). But even though their sense of sight is not quite as well-developed as ours, they still use it a fair amount. Just ask any cat who likes watching the birds through the window.

And maybe it is because cats can’t see as well as we can that they are taken aback and even suspicious when one of their lot comes home with a dramatic new haircut. Is it still a friend if it’s no longer shaped like one?

In this video, a poor, normally fluffy munchkin cat has arrived home from the groomers with almost his whole body shaved, leaving tufts of fluff only on his head and at the tip of his tail. This may have been a necessary indignity for health or climate reasons, but that doesn’t mean the other cats of the household are happy about it.

Usually, the orange cat, Pumpkin, loves his fluffy white brother Spooky. But today, he’s very suspicious. The poor shaved kitty keeps approaching his sibling, unsure why the other cat keeps hissing and running away from him. It’s still the same cat, just in a different coat!

Our heart goes out to Spooky. He’s actually a deaf cat so the whole scenario must be even more off-putting and curious to him.
