There’s nothing like a quiet cup of coffee on the deck—unless you’re suddenly interrupted by a family of hungry black bears.
One woman shared a wild video of her parents’ peaceful morning being turned into a surprise bear encounter at their remote cabin, and it’s equal parts adorable and a little terrifying. According to her, her parents were enjoying their morning brew by the fireplace when her dad spotted an unexpected visitor: a black bear cub sniffing around their deck.

Now, any seasoned outdoorsperson knows that where there’s a cub, mama isn’t far behind—and sure enough, the rest of the bear family soon followed.
As seen in the video, the bears weren’t there to cause trouble. They were simply on a mission: find food. The night before, the human family had grilled up some juicy steaks, and the mouthwatering scent clearly lingered just enough to catch the attention of a bear’s powerful nose.
The curious crew poked around the deck, gave the grill a thorough inspection, and even scoped out the fire pit. One particularly brave cub approached the open flame, only to adorably scamper back after realizing fire isn’t so fun up close.
Despite their hopeful sniffing, the bears found no leftovers, and after a few more sniffs and shuffles, they wandered back into the woods, leaving behind only a great story—and one very lucky family who got to witness nature up close from behind the safety of their cabin walls.
Moral of the story: always clean your grill, especially when you’re deep in bear country.
