Pandas have long been one of the most beloved yet vulnerable animals on the planet. Thanks to decades of hard work by Chinese conservation groups and organizations, they’ve officially been moved off the endangered species list. But even now, their numbers remain low, with only about 1,864 giant pandas left in the wild, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
That’s why the birth of six tiny panda cubs in China has sparked so much excitement. CNN’s TikTok account shared a video of the newborns making their first public debut, and viewers everywhere are falling in love. In the video, staff at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding gently place the six cubs on a blanket in the grass. Still so tiny, with hints of pink on their skin, the babies crawl around curiously, eager to explore. National Geographic explains that their pinkish skin will eventually be covered by the iconic black-and-white fur as they grow.
Since 2023, China’s panda breeding programs have welcomed dozens of baby pandas, and this new group is the latest to join the family. They don’t have names yet, but fans are hoping their playful personalities will inspire something fitting. Judging by the reaction online — flooded with smiley emojis and comments like “These gorgeous creatures are such a joy to watch” — it’s clear these cubs are already melting hearts around the world.
