Puppy training is supposed to take patience and discipline — but one dad’s overly generous approach has the internet laughing out loud.

A now-viral TikTok shared on @cannolithedood shows a man named John attempting to train his family’s 4-month-old goldendoodle, Cannoli, to “stay.” Cannoli, however, has other plans and barely attempts to follow the command.

Even so, John can’t bring himself to deny her a reward.

“That’s not very good,” he’s heard saying in the clip, “but you can have a treat anyways.”

The moment quickly became a fan favorite, especially after John’s daughter, 19-year-old Anna from Massachusetts, explained that the duo are inseparable.

“Cannoli and my dad are best friends,” Anna told Newsweek. “He definitely has a soft spot for her.”

Anna said the video was first shared in the family group chat, where everyone instantly found it adorable — and slightly concerning from a training perspective.

“I love her little paws and how she scurries to get the treat,” Anna said. “Cannoli knows she’ll most likely get a treat from my dad, even if she doesn’t listen.”

The family even joked that they had to hold a meeting to remind John to take training seriously so Cannoli’s progress doesn’t stall.

The internet, meanwhile, is fully on Team Cannoli.

The video has pulled in more than 9 million views and over 2 million likes, with viewers loving John’s laid-back training style. A caption over the video reads, “why is your dog so badly behaved?” — followed immediately by the proof.

At home, Cannoli and John have developed an especially close bond. According to Anna, the pup curls up with her dad every night, sometimes perched on his shoulder.

“We call her a ‘darrot’ — half dog, half parrot,” Anna said. “She fits right in.”

Despite the viral moment, Cannoli is actually doing well with training. The family began working on basic commands like “sit” and “paw” from day one, and she’s made solid progress with house training, often sleeping through the night without accidents.

Like any puppy, she still struggles with focus, teething, and the occasional mishap — but Anna says she wouldn’t change a thing.

“She’s very smart and picks things up quickly,” Anna said. “It just takes a few tries.”

The comments section has been flooded with jokes and praise for the father-daughter-dog dynamic.

One user wrote, “It’s giving Phil Dunphy.”

Another joked, “He’s not running a strict program.”

And one perfectly summed it up: “Participation treat.”

Training may still be a work in progress, but for Cannoli and her favorite human, the bond — and the treats — are clearly unconditional.
