A woman in Ontario thought she was adopting a tiny kitten who would stay on the smaller side. What she got instead was a full-blown floof monster — and the internet can’t stop laughing.

In a now-viral Instagram post shared by @hercozycrew, a Siberian cat named Sprout is shown as a baby kitten, looking like a soft cotton ball with bright blue eyes and an innocent little face. The next image reveals the surprise twist: Sprout all grown up, stretched across the couch like he owns the place, an enormous cloud of fur calmly grooming himself while keeping an eye on his human.

“He’s so cute and tiny, I don’t think he’ll get that big!” the caption reads. “Seven months later…”

The cat’s mom, 29-year-old Carly Thomas from Ontario, admitted she was completely unprepared for just how much her kitten would grow.

“I brought home a tiny 1.5-pound kitten at the start of May 2025,” she wrote. “Now it’s January 2026 and he’s 11 pounds and a whole chonk of a cat. His first birthday isn’t until February 14th.”

Thomas added that Siberian cats are slow to mature and don’t reach their full size until around three years old — meaning Sprout is very much still a work in progress.

“Did I bring home a kitten or a dog?” she joked. “He was such a cute little kitten. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still adorable, but I just want to go back in time and squish the cuteness out of that little guy.”

Speaking about the post, Thomas said it still blows her mind how fast the transformation happened.

“In the first clip, he was about two pounds,” she explained. “Fast-forward seven months and he was almost 12 pounds. It’s still wild to me.”

Siberian cats are known for being a large, long-haired breed originally from Russia. They typically weigh between 8 and 18 pounds and are prized for their thick triple coats, affectionate personalities, and reputation for being more allergy-friendly than many other cats. While they’re not the biggest domestic cats out there, they’re definitely on the fluffier end of the spectrum.

The post quickly took off online, racking up more than 2.1 million views and over 109,000 likes.

Commenters couldn’t resist chiming in.

“I’m pretty sure he might be a large baby in a cat suit,” one user joked.

Another added, “The classic Siberian transformation. He will get bigger in a few more years.”

And one viewer summed it up perfectly: “It makes me wonder how much of it is all the floof.”
