Not everyone has the strength or precision of a pro athlete—but you don’t need elite skills to enjoy sports. Sometimes, all it takes is a little enthusiasm… and apparently, four paws. From dogs who chase footballs to cats who treat every open field like a playground, animals have a funny way of turning games into pure joy.
One mischievous cat in New Zealand has taken that idea to a whole new level by making himself a regular on a local golf course. On January 15, the fluffy scene-stealer was spotted trotting straight onto the green, interrupting a golfer mid-putt in what looked like a desperate (and adorable) bid for attention.
Pet parents everywhere can relate to the “velcro pet” energy on display here—but dealing with it on a golf course takes serious focus. The golfer, to his credit, showed near–pro-level concentration. Despite the cat rolling around his feet and begging for affection, he managed to line up his shot and take a clean swing.
That focus didn’t last long.

Once the ball was hit, the cat wasted no time claiming his new human. Viewers were quick to joke that fate—or the cat distribution system—had decided this golfer was meant to be adopted. As one commenter perfectly put it, “She’s your new catty!”
No one knows for sure if the cat is a stray who wandered onto the course or a well-known neighborhood pet who’s made the green his second home. Judging by his confidence and charm, though, it’s safe to say he’s a local favorite. Another commenter summed it up best by noting that the cat clearly belongs to the community—complete with a collar and probably dozens of neighborhood Facebook posts about him.
And while spotting a friendly cat on the green would make just about anyone’s day, cats aren’t the only unexpected visitors golfers encounter. Golf courses are notorious for surprise wildlife appearances, from curious birds to bold coyotes that have even been caught stealing golf balls mid-game.
It’s all part of the experience. On a golf course, you’re never just playing against the terrain—you’re sharing it. And sometimes, the cutest interruption imaginable is waiting right there on the green.
