There’s nothing quite like a puppy getting the zoomies to instantly improve your mood — and this Golden Retriever is serving up pure joy.
In a now-viral TikTok video, Birdie the puppy turned her family’s couch into her own personal racetrack. Her mom caught the perfectly timed moment and captioned the clip, “my favorite type of zoomies are on the couch.”
The video shows Birdie sprinting back and forth across the cushions like she’s training for the Puppy Olympics, while her dad calmly sits nearby, barely reacting to the chaos unfolding inches away from him.
A text overlay reads, “It’s about that time of night again,” hinting that this may be a regular event in the household. At one point, Birdie makes a sharp turn, dives toward a blanket, and lets out a bark into the fabric before immediately resuming her high-speed laps.

The internet could not get enough.
Viewers flooded the comments, calling the puppy zoomies “so cute,” especially at her age. One person said the blanket bark was their favorite part. Another laughed at how Birdie’s dad stayed completely unfazed and even scooted over to give her more room to sprint.
One commenter shared that they used to call it “puppy power hour” when their own dog was little — and it happened at exactly 9 p.m. every night.
So what’s actually going on when dogs suddenly lose their minds like this?
Experts call these bursts of energy Frenetic Random Activity Periods, better known as zoomies. It’s when a dog suddenly starts racing around, spinning in circles, or bouncing off furniture with zero warning.
According to animal behavior experts, zoomies are a totally normal way for dogs — especially puppies — to release pent-up energy or shake off stress. Sometimes it’s just excitement. Sometimes it’s happiness. Sometimes it’s simply because they feel like it.
While puppies are famous for these chaotic energy bursts, older dogs can get them too. Even other animals like cats and horses are known to have their own version of zoomies.
It may look like total madness in the moment, but honestly, there’s something heart-melting about watching a happy puppy go full speed across a couch like it’s the Indy 500.
