There is nothing sweeter than watching your pet make a new friend. Dog parents love knowing their pups feel happy, loved, and connected, especially when that bond comes from the most unexpected place.
For one family, their Golden Retriever, Maggie, has found a best friend right in the backyard. The only twist? Her new buddy is a local woodland deer.
The family has nicknamed the visiting doe Dottie, and Instagram user @sherri_inspires has been sharing adorable updates about the pair’s unusual friendship online.
In one recent clip, Maggie can be seen racing along the inside of her fenced-in yard while Dottie keeps pace on the other side. When Maggie reaches the end of the fence and suddenly turns around, Dottie turns right along with her.

The two run back and forth together as if they have done it a hundred times before, separated only by a few wooden fence slats.
It is the kind of scene that feels almost too precious to be real.
This was not the first time Maggie and Dottie had worn themselves out during a backyard playdate. Just one week earlier, Maggie’s mom shared another video showing the patient pup slowly convincing her deer friend to join in the fun.
That clip showed Maggie and Dottie frolicking along the fence on multiple days, set to the Golden Girls theme song, “Thank You For Being a Friend.”
Naturally, the internet fell completely in love.
“Oh my goodness. The little stomp to get the chase going again was the sweetest,” one viewer wrote. “I feel like I’m watching a Disney movie and all the animals communicate perfectly with one another without words. Thank you for sharing this.”
Another person had the same reaction, writing, “What in the Disney movie did I just watch?”
Other viewers joked that Maggie no longer needs walks because Dottie has officially become her personal trainer.
The on-screen text in the video summed it up perfectly: “Maggie is very happy and verrrrrrrry tired.”
It is easy to see why. With a backyard bestie like Dottie, every day must feel like a magical adventure.
