What started as a road trip to a Taylor Swift concert turned into a heart-melting rescue mission—and a forever home—for two stray Labs.
Last year, Brooke Morosca and her mom were on their way to an Airbnb near New Orleans when she spotted something in the middle of the road. It turned out to be a yellow Lab, filthy and clearly abandoned. Moments later, a second dog—a black Lab—came bounding out of the woods.
Brooke, a lifelong dog lover and former vet student, didn’t hesitate. She offered them water and food and was stunned when both dogs started following her. For the next four days, the Labs never left her side.
“They slept on the porch of our Airbnb every night,” Brooke recalled. “It was like they picked me.”

The pair, skinny and flea-ridden, especially the black Lab who appeared severely malnourished, clearly had no one looking out for them. Brooke and her mom asked around but found no owners—only abandoned homes and dead ends. Eventually, they called a local shelter, Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS), who recognized the dogs from a long-running neglect case. The shelter had taken their former owner to court and warned that the situation was dangerous.
Heartbroken but determined to help, Brooke left the dogs in the shelter’s care, hoping they’d soon be up for adoption. Back home in Florida, she called obsessively for updates. When she learned the black Lab was finally cleared for adoption, she named him Rhysand, jumped in her car, and drove 10 hours to bring him home.
But the yellow Lab had been returned to her former owner.
“I was crushed,” Brooke said. “They’d been through everything together. I couldn’t stop thinking about her.”
Months passed. Then, one sleepless night, Brooke randomly checked the shelter’s website—and there she was. The yellow Lab was back and up for adoption.
Brooke didn’t hesitate. She launched a TikTok campaign for help with the long drive and expenses, and the internet delivered. Donations poured in. Encouraging messages flooded her page. And once again, Brooke made the 10-hour drive to Louisiana to bring the second dog home.
@brookemorosca THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I have to get her somehow. I have to figure it out. #dogsoftiktok #rescuedogs #lostdogs #straydog ♬ original sound – Jwlpiano_🎹
They’re calling her Crumpet for now.
The emotional reunion between Rhysand and Crumpet—after seven months apart—was captured on video and shared on TikTok, where millions have followed their story.
“They fell asleep in my lap, just like they did the first time,” Brooke said. “It was like no time had passed.”
Now safe, happy, and very much loved, the dogs are settling into their new life in Florida. Brooke says they’ve discovered both pups are around three years old, and they’re planning a DNA test—she suspects they might be siblings.
“I’ve always dreamed of opening a dog rescue,” Brooke said. “This might be the start.”
The director of JPAWS, Michelle Brignac, couldn’t agree more. “Everyone cried when she came back for Crumpet,” she said. “Now they’re both part of her forever family.”
Brooke hopes their story inspires others to adopt or foster. “There are so many dogs out there like Rhysand and Crumpet, just waiting for someone to care,” she said. “I’m lucky they chose me.”
