A heart-melting puppy rescue is taking social media by storm after a California woman visiting Hawaii found a tiny, shivering pup in a field next to her house.

In a now-viral Instagram post, Megan Novak shared, “Found this baby puppy in the open field next to the house shivering cold covered in fleas. Probably about 4–6 weeks old.” The clip shows the fragile little puppy wrapped in a yellow towel as Novak gently strokes her head, capturing the first moments of care and comfort.

Novak and her family immediately searched the surrounding area for the puppy’s mother or siblings but found none. With no 24-hour veterinary clinics nearby, they cared for the pup themselves through the night—giving her a flea bath, carefully removing pests by hand, and keeping her warm in blankets.

By the next morning, signs of hope appeared. The once-weak puppy stirred with new energy—and even wagged her tail for the first time. Later that day, the family was able to pick up specialist puppy milk and get guidance from a vet on proper care.

Soon, the family made a decision: this little pup was staying with them. “Her name is Milky and we flew her home from Hawaii to California. We are her forever home,” Novak explained.

“I made and shared the video because it was a really emotional process finding and saving the little puppy,” she added. “I spent countless sleepless nights worrying about her and hoping all our work would help her survive. We found her around 4 weeks old, and she was very weak and cold.”

The Instagram video has now been viewed more than 470,000 times, with followers sharing heartwarming reactions. “Omg!! Such a little angel,” wrote one viewer, while another commented, “Well done—how could you resist that bundle of love?” One fan even added, “Looks like you found a friend for life. The best friend you’ll ever have.”

Novak said she was moved by the response. “Making the video was a creative emotional release for me,” she explained. “I posted it hoping it would show people what these poor rescue animals go through before they are saved. Social media can be very negative, so it’s nice to see comments filled with love and positivity.”
