Our planet is full of incredible creatures, and for many of us, animals are the most fascinating. From massive predators to tiny rodents, Earth is home to thousands of species, each more amazing than we often realize. Simply sharing space with them is a privilege—and a few lucky people get to form truly special bonds.

One of those people is Utah resident @ellie_hants, who has developed a remarkable friendship with a gentle moose named Bug. Over the years, Ellie has earned Bug’s trust, and now the massive animal regularly stops by for a snack—and even lets her pet him! It’s not every day you meet a wild moose that’s comfortable enough to hang out like a giant outdoor dog.

This is the latest I’ve ever seen her! I think it’s because we still don’t have any snow which is really unusual this late in the year. It makes my whole day when I see that face! #moosemama #utah #getoutside #moose #bug

Ellie’s followers are amazed. Many can’t believe she’s allowed so close to Bug, but everyone agrees it’s a rare and special relationship. “Animals are the best judges of a person’s heart,” one viewer commented. “You obviously have a kind soul and are being rewarded.”

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Ellie keeps Bug’s favorite snacks on hand. “She comes for snacks and compliments,” another follower joked. And really, who could resist?

Even though Bug’s visits this late in the fall are a little unusual, Ellie is grateful for every encounter. Moose typically migrate to lower elevations in winter to avoid harsh weather, relying on their thick fur and fat stores to survive freezing months. But with this fall bringing little snow so far, Bug has been hanging around higher elevations longer than expected.

For Ellie—and the lucky viewers who get to witness these heartwarming moments—every visit from Bug is a reminder of just how magical it can be to form a connection with the wild.
