Sometimes our fur babies make choices that are… questionable at best. And when they do, the result is usually comedy gold.
Meet Mako, an adorable Shih Tzu who is currently winning laughs all over TikTok thanks to a moment of pure confusion caught on camera by his mom, Crystal, who posts as That Fur Mama.
In the now-viral clip, Mako is standing behind a gate attached to a door. The funny part? Both the gate and the door are wide open. Even so, Mako is convinced he’s trapped and desperately begs to be let inside, completely missing the obvious solution of simply walking around the gate.

At one point, Crystal can’t help but roast her pup, joking, “He’s not the brightest… meanest? Yes. Brightest? No.” She doubled down in the caption with, “All floof and no brains.”
Viewers couldn’t get enough of Mako’s clueless determination, and the comment section quickly filled with people admitting their own pets have had similar moments.
One commenter joked that the video forced them to apologize to their own dog for ever calling them the dumbest. Another admitted they used to think their dogs were “broken” until seeing Mako struggle with the gate.
Others chimed in with observations that felt very on-brand for the breed, with one viewer writing, “Shih Tzus really are not the smartest,” and another adding, “Today wasn’t his day with the brain cell.”
