At Wild Adventures Theme Park, there’s a friendship unfolding that’s quietly stealing hearts—and it’s not something you see every day.

Inside the park’s Giraffe Overlook, a young zebra named Kurtsie and a gentle giraffe named Bakari have formed an incredibly rare bond. The two are often spotted side by side, grooming each other, relaxing together, and even sharing snacks. What started as simple curiosity has turned into a deep connection that’s giving visitors a front-row seat to just how powerful animal friendships can be.

And honestly? It’s as adorable as it sounds.

Bakari, a 7-year-old giraffe, has lived at the Georgia park since he was just a year old. But things really changed when the park introduced a redesigned Giraffe Overlook, allowing giraffes and zebras to interact more naturally—just like they would in the wild.

That’s when Kurtsie entered the picture.

Born in December 2023, Kurtsie was the first baby zebra to meet the giraffes up close. And from the very beginning, Bakari was fascinated.

“Kurtsie first entered the Giraffe yard just hours after she was born,” said animal care specialist Sarah Plain. “From day one, Bakari was very curious about her, often following her around the yard.”

At first, the tiny zebra was a bit unsure of her towering new friend. But as she grew, something changed—and the bond between them only got stronger.

By the time Kurtsie reached about two years old, she started seeking Bakari out more and more. Instead of keeping her distance, she began sticking close to him, weaving around his legs as they walked and even joining him during feeding times.

“She began spending more time with Bakari, often weaving around his legs and sharing snacks,” Plain said. “She would even accompany him during giraffe feedings—and most of the time, she’d just curl up and take a nap nearby while he ate.”

Yes, really.

Visitors at the park can actually see this unlikely duo for themselves. Whether they’re grooming each other or hanging out during feeding time, Kurtsie and Bakari have become a must-see attraction. Guests can even book special giraffe encounters, where there’s a good chance Kurtsie will be right there beside her best friend.

Of course, they’re not glued together every second. Kurtsie still spends time with her zebra herd, and Bakari shares space with another giraffe named Bariki. But more often than not, if you spot one—you’ll find the other close by.

And if you’re trying to pick them out? It’s easier than you think.

Bakari is the lighter-colored giraffe, while Kurtsie has a unique giraffe-shaped marking on her right shoulder—a perfect little detail for a zebra who clearly thinks she’s part giraffe.

In a world where differences usually keep animals apart, these two are proving the opposite—and people can’t stop smiling about it.
