Sibling rivalry is real — even when the siblings have paws.

A Golden Retriever puppy named Levi recently learned that lesson the hard way when his 17-year-old cat brother, Theodore, decided Levi’s cozy new crate looked like the perfect place for a nap.

Theodore, a white and tabby senior cat also lovingly called “Meatball” by his mom, usually puts up with Levi’s puppy energy, zoomies and general chaos. But when it came to the comfiest spot in the house, the elderly cat was not backing down.

Their mom, Mary, a cookie artist, caught the whole funny standoff on camera.

At first, it looked like Theodore might simply settle in beside his Golden Retriever brother. But then Levi seemed to realize something was very wrong.

That was his bed.

The puppy tried to reclaim his space, but Theodore had already made up his mind. The cat’s grumpy little face said everything viewers needed to know: he was staying put.

People online loved the dramatic showdown between the two fur brothers.

“His face is screaming, ‘I’m not going anywhere,’” one commenter joked.

Another viewer pointed out how gentle the pets were with each other, writing, “They didn’t throw claws, just paws, and the puppy chose zoomies. Awww, you have gentle pets.”

In the end, Theodore seemed to win the battle of patience. Levi may have had more energy, but the senior cat had the confidence of someone who has spent 17 years getting exactly what he wants.

Still, as funny as the moment was, Levi’s crate is meant to be his safe space. Crates can help puppies with potty training, rest and learning how to feel calm when they need a break from the world.

For dogs, especially young ones, having a crate can create a little den where they feel secure. It can also help dogs who struggle with separation anxiety or get into trouble when left alone.

So while Theodore may have enjoyed his stolen nap spot, Mary will probably have to make sure Levi still gets first dibs on his own bed.
