Dogs can have very strong opinions about water.
Some breeds, including Golden Retrievers and Labradors, seem naturally drawn to swimming. Many spaniels and beagles also enjoy splashing around. Miniature Dachshunds, however, are not usually the first dogs people picture diving into a pool.
That is exactly why one tiny Dachshund named Pierre is getting so much attention online.
Pierre once wanted nothing to do with the pool, but after finally overcoming his fear, he appears to have become completely obsessed with it.
His owner, Instagram user @lindsaysilb, shared a video showing the little dog repeatedly taking a running leap into the water.
“POV: your mini dachshund who was afraid of the pool suddenly becomes obsessed with belly flopping,” the text on the video reads.
Pierre launches himself from the edge with complete confidence, briefly flying through the air before landing belly-first in the pool.
His family joked that they may have encouraged his new hobby a little too much.
“We’ve created a monster,” the caption reads.

Viewers could not get enough of the tiny dog’s dramatic dives.
“I’ve never seen a sausage fly,” one person joked.
Another called it “the most regal and elegant belly flop I’ve ever seen.”
Several viewers were especially amused by Pierre wagging his tail while suspended in midair.
“The tail wags mid-flight help with distance. It’s science,” one commenter wrote.
Although backyard pools can be a great way for dogs to cool down, owners should always take precautions.
Dogs should be closely supervised whenever they are near water. Pool fences, covers and alarms can help prevent accidental falls, while canine life jackets may provide extra protection for dogs that are still learning or tire easily.
Owners should also make sure their pets know how to get out of the pool. Steps or a dog-friendly ramp can be especially helpful for smaller breeds with short legs.
Swimming can also be exhausting, so dogs should be given frequent breaks and access to fresh drinking water.
Pierre may not be headed to an Olympic diving competition anytime soon, but he has certainly earned the title of champion belly flopper.
Judging by his enthusiasm, this little Dachshund’s pool days are only getting started.
